First, my thanks to everyone who helped Pat with display garden clean up this morning.

Today was a terrific meeting. It is always good to start a meeting with good food and this club knows how to cook.

After the pot luck was over, we had a brief business meeting:

Paul discussed our plant sale on May 19. The sale was mentioned in an article in today’s Maine Sunday Telegram. The sale starts at 8:00 and we always have people waiting to start buying as soon as the doors open. Pat will be there around 6:30 and people can start setting up then. Sellers can keep up to 50% of the sale with the rest going to support the club. If you are interested in selling, please let Pat Boissonneault know.

We then discussed the Maine Lobstah Classic that we will be holding on August 17. This was a blast last year and this year should be even better. We will have a silent auction before the event and a live auction after the speaker presentations. Of course it gets even better with a lobster dinner afterword. We will posting a registration form soon. Those attending the dinner will need to send in their $15 payment before July 13.

The summer garden tour is starting to take shape. We are working on a couple of gardens in the Otisfield area and will try to get a couple of more gardens to the list. The tour should be sometime in July.

In September we will schedule a Fall Sale / Plant Swap.

After the business meeting, we started our “Round Robin” discussion on a number of topics:

The best ways to combat slugs (a 10% Ammonia/water solution was suggested).

Moving on to other pests, Rex discussed seeing Minute Pirate Bugs in the garden last year. These predators feed on thrips, aphids, spider mites and other pests. A quick look at Google shows that can also bite us.

We discussed a number of good performers in the garden and listed a number of good hybridizers of of northern hardy daylilies.

We discussed late and very late daylilies.

All in all it was a very interesting discussion and I think everyone had a lot of fun discussing these topics.

I look forward to seeing you all at the sale in May.

Paul

Thank you to every one that attended our annual business meeting and holiday party on December 1. We also had 5 new members at the party this year. Our club has had a great year and this was a great way to end the 2012 season.

First we had a bit of business to attend to…We held our annual business meeting. The current officers were nominated for another 2 year term and were approved unanimously. We then reviewed the club’s finances. Our balance is lower than when we started the year, but we spent more at the Lobster Classic than we brought in. That event was a lot of fun and we learned a couple of things to at least keep us even for next year. The last item of business is the date for the March meeting. When we selected the date, we did not realize that it was Easter weekend and it also turns out to be an Open House weekend at the college. So, we will verify dates for the other societies and select a new date for the photo contest.

Following the boring business stuff, we played a few rounds of Bingo. Winners won SMDHS Auction bucks to use at our June Auction and a gift certificate for Rockhaven Daylilies. We then broke into the buffet of wonderful food brought by the members. We finished with our annual Yankee Swap.

Thank you all for a great year! We hope your holiday season is safe and fun and we look forward to seeing you in March for our annual photo contest.

Paul B.
