Annual Meeting & Election of Officers, Oct 2023

SMDHS Business Meeting
Saturday, October 7, 2023
The meeting was attended by Lisa and Paul Bourret, Wendy Kelly, Sterling MacLean and Lee Harvie.

Paul presented the treasury report:

o We opened the year with $3,464.22.
o We have received interest of $0.57.
o We have spent $533.50 for door prizes and for the website.
o The current balance as of September 30 is $2, 931.29.

The group approved purchasing of gift cards for use as door prizes at the holiday party.

The following slate of officers was submitted for approval:

    o President: Sterling MacLean
    o Vice President: Lee Harvie
    o Treasurer: Sue Labonville
    o Secretary:  OPEN

The slate of officers was approved unanimously by those present.  At the December meeting, we will put forth a change to the bylaws to split the current Secretary / Treasurer position.  When the club started, it was two separate positions, but they were combined into one.

We considered looking at alternative meeting sites that may allow us to attract more members.  Details will be discussed at a future meeting.
We discussed doing a plant sale at the Scarborough Kiwanis Yard Sale. Lee will look into more details.

We discussed removing daylilies from the display bed and selling these to the club members or at a future plant sale.

We discussed the possibility of changing the bylaws to change from no dues to $10 per year per person. Without participation from members in the plant sale, the club needs some way to provide funds for speakers and activities. This will be discussed and voted on at the December meeting.

We discussed taking down the website, but it was felt that it was a good place to keep members informed of what is going on in the club. All members are encouraged to check out the website and suggest what else they might like to see there.

The next meeting is the Holiday Party on Sunday, December 3, from 12:00-3:00 at the
Horticulture building at SMCC.Report respectfully submitted by Paul Bourret, Secretary/Treasurer.

2022 Events

Hi everyone.  SMCC has confirmed our dates for this year.  The schedule is available on our website http://www.smdhs.info/events/.
First up will be our Photo Contest in March.  I will put out more detailed info later this week.
The executive board met recently and we have made the decision to cancel the Lobstah Classic again this year.  There is still too much uncertainty with Covid to host an event where we bring such a large crowd together.  We also did not want to make commitments to rent space at the school, schedule catering, obtain insurance etc. where another surge could cause us to cancel.

2021 Holiday Party

This is a reminder that next Sunday is our Holiday Party.  It will be at the horticulture building at SMDHS from Noon – 3:00.  Bring your own lunch plus any dessert items that you would like to share.
We will also play our Yankee Swap dice game again.  Rules will be provided at the meeting.  If you are playing, please bring a present under $20 wrapped so that we cannot see what it is.
We will also have a number of door prizes from Broadway Gardens, O’Donnal’s, and Ossippee Trails gardens that will be raffled off during the party.
We look forward to seeing you there.  Here is a link to SMCC”s Covid Guidelines.  Please review them prior to the meeting
